Slim Profile Microwave Review

With a recent kitchen remodel I wanted a separate wall mounted microwave over a single wall oven vs. an oven/microwave combo appliance. I set the end of cooking time chime to high & it isn™€™t as loud as I would like it to be. It sounds too low. The oven light turns on when door is open but when in use, despite the oven light being on, the cavity isn™€™t well lit up as I think it should be. If the microwave light had been placed on a wall instead of the upper front of this appliance, a person would be able to see the food while it™€™s cooking much better through the tinted glass. Perhaps if you redesign this oven, a repositioning of the light so it lights the interior better would be a plus. One star removed for the low sounding end of cooking time & poor placement of interior light. The microwave™€™s slim profile is great as most times I am either reheating food on a plate, melting butter or chocolate in a small bowl or cooking a frozen dinner entree. It is tall enough to handle a decent sized mixing bowl if needed. The removable glass plate is also a decent size. Regarding installation, my contractor had to use shims on the interior shelf of the cabinet opening as the microwave wasn™€™t level. The shims corrected that. The removal of the blue plastic was difficult to remove completely across the bottom of the glass. I believe the protective plastic was applied below the glass installation during manufacture instead of at the very end prior packing for the customer to receive. Please correct that.

would not recommend. I normally only buy kitchenaid products, but this was the most expensive piece of junk ever. the turntable falls off the track when you put absolutely anything on it. anytime I put butter in it explodes all over the place. The food is either not warmed through and takes forever or it is completely overcooked. There is no rhyme or reason. This is a complete lemon microwave and would stay away from it.

We purchased this microwave for our new construction home and are very pleased with it. We bought the slim trim package so it looks really sleek. I love that the controls are inside the door, making it even more modern looking. This hasn't been an issue for us, but the height of the cooking area is not as tall as most microwaves so if you are used to putting really big things in a microwave, this would not be the right one for you. Overall, we are happy.

Recently had kitchen remodeled and bought this microwave for it. It works nicely. I was afraid it was going to be too small/narrow to hold my casserole dishes but it holds them fine and works great. I like that it is quiet while cooking and not loud like my last one, and the ™€œEND™€ sound isn™€™t loud either so it doesn™€™t wake grandbabies up while they are sleeping. (My other one beeped so loud early in the morning it sometimes woke my grandkids when they stayed over.). I am having to get used to entering the time to cook and then closing the door to start it which is a change I™€™m not used to. Otherwise it cooks well and runs well and is a great microwave.

After our house flooded with Hurricane Harvey the one thing I was excited about ordering were new appliances. I love the styling, features, and quality of KitchenAid products and was thrilled to purchase the 25.8 Cu. Ft. French Door refrigerator (KRMF706ESS), the beautiful dishwasher with a 3rd rack (KDTE304GPS), the 30" Double Oven with convection (KODE500ESS), and an enormous Microwave with a removable shelf for lots of options (KNHP519ESS) which had a special cherry cabinet built around it. Our kitchen was finally ready, just in time for Christmas 2018. The refrigerator was the first to have issues, with the ice maker leaking, stopping, freezing the entire thing up which had to be thawed with a hair dryer. We replaced the ice container 6/20, motor, seal and shaft 8/20, I/M leaking and stopped cooling on both sides 6/22. In August 2023 the entire fridge had quit working correctly and would have cost over 1K for parts which 'might' have solved the issue. Sadly our wonderful microwave started making a loud noise and quit running October 2023 and the technician gave us the news that the Magnetron shorted, and couldn't be fixed. We have a whole house surge protector so we know it wasn't caused by electrical issues. Now in the summer of 2024 our dishwasher quit working correctly. The motor has died in the main wash assembly. It would cost more than $600 as the entire bottom of the unit must be replaced. Since 3 of our 4 expensive KitchenAid appliances have failed I asked the technician about our very pricy oven which he warned us that if the heating element on the bottom goes out, the removal and repair for it will be astronomical, because of the way it is constructed. [ ] I absolutely love these appliances, they were all top notch and had every feature I could ever want, but I can't believe that I have spent over $10,000 and am having to replace 3 of the 4 in less than 6 years!

We purchased this from Lowe's in July for a kitchen remodel. Kitchen not completed and parts not taken out of the box until November. Our mistake for not taking everything out of the box within 30 days. As it turned out the slim trim kit has a couple of dings in it straight from the box - one that illuminates under my lighting. I contacted KA and asked if they would either replace the slim trim kit or sell at a 50% discount to me. We have purchased from KA before - the dishwasher, double oven, refrigerator, Pro 7 KA. The rep kindly explained that had we have noticed in the first thirty days, they would have replaced, but given the months in between, they have no idea if we caused damage or not. I reiterated we didn't and if they would offer the trim kit at a 50% discount, I would purchase to replace ours. No go. I asked for a supervisor and the representative said I am not transferring you because they would give you the same rules as I have. She then hung up. I find this less than positive. I like the microwave and for the limited use, it has performed well. Given, KA runs % off sales all the time, I don't think I was being unreasonable. So, buyer beware, check everything immediately upon receipt. Not saying we will not go with KA again, but I found the response off putting.

The door doesn't always close properly to allow cooking. The same problem exists with my daughters Maytag unit. Appears to be a defect that needs to be addressed corporate wide (KitchenAid, Maytag, and possibly Whirlpool). Other than that, it appears to operate properly

Purchased this microwave less than a year ago and it has already had to have the motherboard replaced. So many issues with it. The tray slides out and moves around from under whatever is on it. The sound is so faint, it is inaudible. Definitely NOT worth the money.

Best Use Of Space And Intuitive To Use

We put this in as part of a renovation, it sits above our wall oven. Most built-in microwaves are smaller (less wide) than a normal oven, and require a fit kit (sometimes ridiculously expensive, looking at you, Miele) and just overall waste space. This oven uses the width of the wall oven and is only as high as 90%+ of the stuff you put in a microwave. The most detailed use buttons are cleanly put inside the door, the ones I use 90%+ of the time (add 30 seconds, open, cancel) are outside the door. It also microwaves perfectly well.

Have not had much opportunity as remodeling is ongoing, however....I find it to be very quiet, cooks even, more like conventional ovens. fingerprints are an issue however. Exterior needs to be cleaned, not just wiped, after each use as prints a very visible.

We bought this 2 years ago because of its sleek design and external exhaust fan. The fan is extremely loud, cant hear tv and hard to carry on conversation. I hate the tray mechanism. It comes off the track very easily and has to be put back correctly almost daily.The fingerprints are horrible! The only things I do like about it are the non™€ stick inside surface which makes cleaning easier and the exhaust fan comes on automatically if the stove temperature gets to high.

This is the only built in microwave available™€¦the other options are a drawer and a microwave/oven. This one just isn™€™t big enough. The height thanks! Doesn™€™t allow me to warm up my tall coffee cup, warm my maple syrup, etc. and it™€™s not wide enough to put a paper towel over my food without the paper towel dragging the sides and coming off. A paper towel is a must, because it has more hot spots than any microwave I have used in the last 20 years, including my grandmother™€™s 25 year old piece of junk. I cannot melt butter; it pops and sprays after 25 seconds, melting in one spot and leaving the rest solid. I absolutely hate this microwave. I wish I had my old kitchen aid built in from my other house! We usually love kitchen aid, and my stove top, my ovens, my dishwasher, and my refrigerator are all excellent. I™€™ve loved my microwave in the past. But this is absolutely unusable in every form.

This little microwave is great! Years ago I had a KitchenAid and loved it! When I got this one I was quickly reminded how much I love KitchenAid microwaves. I had added to our new home a steamer oven with a small space below. Id resigned myself to the idea that I would never find a built-in to fit my quirky space. Love this wall microwave! Sleek design and matches well with my wall oven! Fits my dishes but if you want a full size I™€™d do something different. Also love all the different options!

We were hesitant to spend so much on a microwave, but I really wanted the sleek look of the built in. We LOVE it! Having the buttons on the inside where they are hidden looks so much nicer than our standard microwave we replaced. 5 star review from us!

Very sleek, but...

I bought this as part of a kitchen renovation so it sat in the box for a month. When it was installed, there was no turntable. They apologized and are sending one out, but so far have no sign that it™€™s being processed. PLEASE send my turntable!! That said, this is a very sleek, beautiful microwave. Can™€™t wait to use it!!!
